Bilingual technical training: keeping operational consistency across industrial multinationals

In an industrial multinational, bilingual training isn't a language problem, it's a consistency problem. If a procedure doesn't mean exactly the same thing at every plant, you don't have translated training: you have two different procedures.
A company with plants in Spain, Poland, and Mexico doesn't have a translation problem when it trains its operators, it has a more serious one: making sure the same procedure is understood and executed the same way in all three.

A concrete example: the "lockout/tagout" procedure appears at one plant translated as "safety lockout" and at another as "isolation". An operator who rotates between sites, or an auditor comparing them, can no longer assume they refer to the same thing, even when they do.
One plant updates its training when the process changes; another stays on the previous version because the translation didn't arrive in time. For months, two plants train their people on different procedures without knowing it. It's the most dangerous inconsistency because it's invisible.
The same operation can be subject to different requirements depending on the country. Translating the content without adapting the local regulatory reference leaves one plant trained on another's framework. Operational consistency doesn't mean 100% identical content, but a common base with local adaptations under control.
The cost doesn't show up on the translation invoice. It shows up later, spread across places where it's harder to trace.

Consistency isn't achieved by translating better, it's achieved by changing the point you translate from.
